Thank you everyone for your good wishes re my health. I am grateful for a good night’s sleep last night. The morning began with a twelve kilometre walk (in the dark along the road, and then as dawn broke through gentle rural/coastal country) to Ribadesella, another solid old coastal town where we (Matthieu, David and I) managed to procure breakfast.
But there was always the prospect of breakfast at Ribadesella and that definitely kept me going.
When I say breakfast, I actually mean first and second breakfast! It turned out that the cafe in Ribadesella had a breakfast deal (coffee, orange juice and a choice of various omelettes etc) for a very good price. We ordered, it came, we ate and drank and it was fantastic, so good that we decided to do it all over again. It was fantastic, as good as the first time and really energising.
To be honest, I could almost have gone a third time, but the road called so off we went - across the estuary and onwards to La Isla.
Tomorrow, I hope to walk to Villaviciosa. This is a slightly shorter stage, which will be appreciated physically. It’s also the point at which those continuing vis the Camino Primitivo will diverge (and head inland to Oviedo) from the Camino del Norte path. Both Andy and Matthieu are planning to go this way so I will be saying farewell at that point.
Meanwhile, there is dinner to be had, and thankfully there is a bar opening for dinner here in Ka Isla. It won’t open until eight, but hopefully it will be worth waiting for.

So pleased to hear you were able to get such a nourishing breakfast to start the day. Here’s hoping you soon recover from your cold. Kx
ReplyDeleteHello Neil,
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased you have recovered after some good sleep, and maybe a visit to the bar helped you sleep well last night:) The scenery on this lap seems so varied- and very beautiful and nourishing to the soul. Somehow this lap has given me hope that the world will take a breath and pause and become kinder.Thank you
The rhythm of sandy beaches interspersed by grassy headlands and pockets of trees seems very peaceful - a kind of timelessness. I know it can be challenging walking through those changes, but maybe the rhythm itself helps the body to keep rolling! Say hi to Andy from me if you get this before you part ways tomorrow!! Love Sarah
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you met up with Andy. Yesterday I read that it was International Egg day, so two helpings of omelette were the perfect meal to enjoy and strengthen you. Continue to improve. We're with you, in spirit, every step of the way
ReplyDeleteHello Neil, I’m now back on deck after a family gathering in the Grampians.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of the Atlantic coast are amazing with brilliant clouds. That sunrise a few days ago, yellow, orange, reds. The changing architecture of the churches from region to region. You see and experience so much more via foot. Great double breakfast in Ribadesella, keep up the protein and keep well.
Love and blessings Bethx
