Today’s stage didn’t turn out to be as manageable as we were expecting. Such is the variability of life on the road.
The accommodation at our destination turned out to be closed - permanently. Then everywhere in the next towns was already booked or closed. So, it turned out to be a massive day - wet, muddy, slippery and unrelenting!! We managed to find a place to stay in Esparros after 40km so walking and some serious climbs. We arrived sodden after 6pm, with rain still falling (as it had all day). We managed to cobble a meal together with bits from our packs - a ‘feast’ fit for a king. Reception is poor so it is incredibly slow to post photos (I have to stand on one foot in the rain to get reception!). These are a few which give a little of the sense of the day - damp!
Hoo boy. The trifecta. Rain, no roof, no supper. I hope the beds are comfortable. At least they’ll be dry.

ReplyDeleteThat was a massive day. Really hope you rested well. There have been so magnificent "ups" but yesterday sure would have been a big big challenge. Hope it's a gentler day today.

Wow! the idea of standing on one foot to find reception on your phone brings vivid images! I hope Neil, if that is you, your legs had a really good rest on the bed. Praying for safety and no slips on the rain sodden ground. Here the weather is brighter, though parts of Victoria and S A are now declared in drought. I am amazed at the effort people made to carry stones to make Church buildings in these small hamlets
