Stage 19. Tui to Mos - 23+kms, sunny and mild

We walked back to Portugal from Spain for dinner last night! Not too many times in life you can boast of that! The evening light was warm on the rio Minho.

And then the lights of the city were striking on our way back to the albergue.

We were awake pre-dawn since our clocks have moved an hour forward since crossing to Spain, and it doesn't get light till about 8am.

We waited for Geoff and Annemarie to walk in from Valenca by the Cathedral and the more time we spent there the more details we noticed. Neil went inside and caught the early light shimmering through the spider webs on the windows, and warming the stone.

I started to pay closer attention to the carvings in stone around the main door, and realised that the saints and apostles were treading demons beneath their feet!

And this detail was in wood on the door itself.

We left Tui via this little tunnel by the convent of Santa Clara.

And descended through beautiful stone laneways to the track.

Guess how far to go?

Water, water, everywhere...

These past few days we've noticed the locals out pruning the laneways after the summer growth.

Some interesting Spanish road signage.

Typical spanish walking boots... I wander why she (or he) left them, they still have some tread.

And, keep those Roman bridges rolling...

Not all of the landscape we walked through was as green and beautiful as this but we've certainly given you a sense of the good stuff.

Buen Camino

PS. It just started raining... ahhh, Galicia!!

  1. You wouldn't be in Galicia if it didn't rain.....

Beautiful photographs. Imagine how many feet have walked on those stones since those bridges and roads were built. You are literally following in the footsteps of those who travelled that path before you.

I liked the photo of Neil standing in the sculpture, too. I saw that sculpture on Geoff's blog but didn't see the peregrinho in it.

Enjoy your evening and, of course, your pilgrim's dinner!

    Bom Caminho!

  2. Keep up the walking, you are looking stronger every day! I don't think the high heels are a good option though, leave those for someone more skilled, especially on cobble stones! Not long till Santiago now ...
